Sheet-fed document scanner

Will the Canon imageFORMULA R40 work?

Yes. Going by Canon's own pages, it can capture today with scan to cloud and a TWAIN driver.

A desktop scanner that scans both sides of each sheet and comes with software for making searchable files.

Easiest path to one place

Scan to one cloud folder

Point every scan at a single cloud folder so they collect in one place. The scan-to-cloud row below says whether a computer or add-on is involved.

How it can capture

  • eSCL / AirScan

    Check with us

Driverless network scanning. Apple calls it AirScan, part of AirPrint, and Mopria Scan uses it too. Nothing to install on the computer.

  • TWAIN Direct

    Check with us

The newer, driverless TWAIN. Apps reach the scanner over the network with nothing to install.

  • Network or Wi-Fi

    No

Connects to your network on its own, so it does not have to stay plugged into one computer.

No. It only connects to a computer with a USB cable.[1][2]

  • Scan to email

    Check with us

Press a button on the device and the pages arrive in an inbox.

  • Scan to cloud

    Yes

The device, or the maker's own software or service, sends pages to cloud storage.

Yes, but only through Canon's CaptureOnTouch program on a Windows or Mac computer, with a plug-in installed. The scanner can't send to the cloud by itself.[1]

  • TWAIN driver (classic)

    Yes

The long-standing way to scan. A driver installed on a computer lets scanning apps run the scanner, usually over a USB cable.

Yes. Common scanning programs on a Windows or Mac computer can use it through its TWAIN driver. It connects to that computer with a USB cable.[1][2]

Works with: Windows 8.1, 10; macOS 10.14 to 11 (manual)
